Thanksgiving Program! 11-11-11

The girls worked very hard on putting together a Thanksgiving Program (Selena called it a concert, even though there was no music).  We scheduled it for 11-11-11 because it was a cool date, then realized it was also Veterans Day, so we had double duty.
The program started with an explanation of "America's White Table" which we set up a few times a year, followed by the seating of our guests.  Each guest got a program with a beaded bracelet depicting the story of the Pilgrims journey to America.

Then we all said the Pledge of Allegiance, which along with patriotic songs, has been out history lesson this week.  Next was a "First Thanksgiving" puppet show.

Following the puppet show, the girls did an interpretive dance as leaves falling from the trees.
The last was a Native American demonstrations, where the girls showed the audience how to weave baskets, fish, plant vegetables, grind corn meal, cook fish, and shoot turkeys with a bow and arrow.

The cast, Selena as Pilgrim Boy, Sweetgum Leaf, and Little Bunny
Abby as Native American Girl, Maple Leaf, and Running Horse
Mommy as director and narrator, and Grandma Judy as the Turkey.

After the program, the girls served the treats that we worked hard on all week.
Turkey Cookies, Pilgrim Hats, Acorns, Apple Braided Bread, Zucchini Bread, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, Apple Cider... It was a great party!
