Wednesday, April 6

What a busy day!  We got up, Aunt Sara and I went to the gym!, and the Grandmas made breakfast for the kiddos.  When we got done eating, the four kids had a bit of "school time."  The kids told me all the words they could think of that had to do with weather.  They came up with:  hail, rain, sunny, windy, snow, clouds, fog, ice, frost, hurricane, tornado, thunder, lightning, hot and cold.  After weather words review, we talked about the letter "U"  and made a list of u words;  umbrella, up, unicorn, umpire, underwear, under, United States, Underdog, Uncle Jason, uncle, upon, upset, upgrade, understand, universe, university, utter, udder.  U seems to be a hard letter to find words for.
Next we read books about seeds and growing plants.  We all had copies of "The Plant" from Reading A-Z and colored and cut out "The Plant" sequencing cards.
After that we watched the "Jack and the Beanstalk" story on CD from Yellow Door (http://www.yellow-door.net/come-alive-stories/jack-and-the-beanstalk).  The kids LOVE this, and we not only listen to the story, but we listen to it again in the song mode.  We really enjoyed the additional resources about beans and giants.

Whew!  After a bit of quiet time, we all got packed up and we were off.
We went to Rocky Reach Dam (where Uncle Jason and Aunt Sara are getting married) to check out the park.  After that we went up to the Visitor's Center and checked out the fish ladder.  This was all of our first time visiting a fish ladder and it was really neat.  We were there too early in the season to see fish, but we were able to see one little guy trying to make it upstream.

After the Dam, we went to watch the cousins practice baseball and t-ball.  Practice was in the field of one of the local elementary schools, and the kids were able to play in the park for a few hours.

So Far Behind!!!

I have partial posts and pictures coming out of my ears!  I need to get caught up, so please bear with me as I try to get two weeks worth of posts up!

Tuesday

Tuesday was our driving day  to Wenatchee, so we talked a bit about our normal lessons and looked through some plant books.  Most of the day we were in the car or playing with the cousins, so we didn't do a whole lot of work.

 The traveling girls!

Monday, April 4th

We had lots to do for our school lessons today.  We started our introduction to weather words and working on plant growing.

The Weekend

We had a long and exciting weekend.  "The Cousins,"  my brother's kids, Cameron and Emilie, were in town, so the kids got to spend Saturday day and night with them at Grandma Judy's house.  The kids get along very well together and always have a good time playing.

On Sunday, our friends came to visit and baby Sophie played with the girls.  We took a walk on the Centennial Trail so the kiddos could fall asleep and even did a little geocaching.  We were able to drop off a travelbug that we had hanging out with us.  We had lots to do to get ready for our trip to Wenatchee this week, and lessons to prepare for our first week of all homeschooling!

Selena put up some "stockings" and it was really cute!

Seed Planting April 1st, 2011

Today we got nearly everything we wanted to accomplished!
We started the day by planting our rainbow seeds.

They sure love to get them all poked in there!

All planted!                 The seeds happily under their UV lights.

After sorting one of the eight boxes of stored tubers, I realized that I'm in need of help, and called our great friend Heidi.  She is going to come help Sunday!

In the evening, I thatched the yard.  Greg wasn't here, and I took lawnmower apart and put the appropriate blade on it, and started it up and thatched the yard!  It was on my to do list so we can get the greenhouse staked down, and I didn't know if there would be any other time this weekend.  I got done after 8, and it was full dark.  But the girls enjoyed playing outside in the dark while I raked :).
Then, finally, I got the herbs, vegetables, and a few flower seeds planted.  They are also under the UV lights in our little basement propagation room.
